La Rioja eBike Ride launched at FITUR

The Olympic medalist and La Rioja Bike Race ambassador, Carlos Coloma, reveals this new touristic experience

La Rioja Bike Race will be for the sixth consecutive year a UCI (International Cycling Union) race, maintaining its XCS 2 class and will be held just before the beginning of the XCO World Cup, awarding also valuable points for the world ranking and for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games qualification.

In its five years, La Rioja Bike Race has covered over a thousand kilometres and climbed 27.500 metres, and has had 4.800 mountain bikers from 38 different nationalities. In the past edition, La Rioja Bike Race beated its record of registrants, female riders and nationalities, being over 1.100 mountain bikers from 22 different countries.

The key to its success is the combination of leisure, gastronomy, culture and a sensational environment for mountain biking, which have made La Rioja Bike Race one of the most attractive events of the calendar.

Four days of MTB with designation of origin

The major sports novelty of La Rioja Bike Race 2019 will be its extra day of racing, in accordance with the new regulations of the International Cycling Union (UCI). It will be held from May 9 to 12 in Logroño and will have fourstages starting and finishing in the capital of La Rioja.

It will cover 245 kilometres, with fun singletracks, fascinating landscapes and passing by typical and new stretches, to ensure fun. All stages will be out and back, and will pass by emblematic places in which fun, authenticity, natural technical and physical difficulties, spectacular landscapes and flow predominate. The Rioja vineyards will accompany the mountain bikers, in balanced and very attractive stages.

The new format entails some logistical changes for the riders that the organisation intends to minimise, in order to keep it as similar as possible to its successful three-day format.

La Rioja Bike Race 2019 will start on Thursday afternoon with a short (less than 90 minutes), fast and intense stage, to get the feel of the race, avoiding a great physical fatigue to the riders, and helping them to travel on the same day of race begins.

Thus, La Rioja Bike Race 2019 ensures one more day of fun without the need to take an additional day off and hardly increasing the riders’ expenses.

A new touristic experience on eBikes: La Rioja eBike Ride

Another of the main novelties of this 2019 is the incorporation of a touristic experience with electronic bicycles, a discipline that's experiencing an exponential growth in recent years.

The organisation is designing, along with La Rioja Tourism, routes that will allow a group of one hundred people to ride in unique places, with feed stations in wine cellars, some timed sections, a Meet & Greet with renown cyclists, etc. An exclusive activity that will complement La Rioja Bike Race.

The organisation will announce more details soon.
