Absolutely full!!

More than a thousand riders will take part in the fourth edition of La Rioja Bike Race presented by Shimano the upcoming 12th, 13th and 14th of May in Logroño. A MTB stage race which has raised to first category worldwide according to the International Cycling Union’s (UCI) criteria, being together with Andalucía Bike Race presented by Shimano, the only ones in Spain with this distinction.

It will have 1.054 mountain bikers from 17 different nationalities, amongst them the two only male Spanish Olympic medallists in this sport; Carlos Coloma and José Antonio Hermida.

The participation of the race’s three-time winner, Clàudia Galicia, who has won all the stages of the previous three editions, is also remarkable.

The nationalities represented are: Algeria, Andorra, Argentina, Belgium, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, France, Honduras, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Spain, Sweden and United Kingdom.

 

Outstading names

Carlos Coloma (Primaflor-Mondraker-Rotor)

Bronze medallist at Rio 2016 Olympic Games and current Cross Country Olympic (XCO) national champion. Athlete from La Rioja and race ambassador. Winner of La Rioja Bike Race presented by Shimano 2014 and 2015.

José Antonio Hermida (Merida)

Silver medallist at Athens 2004 Olympic Games and Cross Country Olympic (XCO) world champion in all categories. Races La Rioja Bike Race presented by Shimano for the first time.

Victor Manuel Fernández (Wolfbike-Citroën Cosersa)

2016 La Rioja Bike Race presented by Shimano runner-up.

Ismael Ventura (Buff-Scott)

Third in La Rioja Bike Race presented by Shimano 2014.

Roberto Bou (TBellès-Cannondale by Tactic)

2015 Under-23 Cross Country Marathon (XCM) national champion and third elite in 2016.

Popular sportsmen who will take part in La Rioja Bike Race presented by Shimano

Aleix Espargaró (MotoGP pilot), Roberto Carretero (former tennis player), Roberto Solozabal (former footballer) y Samuel Trives (former handball player).

 

The route, of 226 kilometres and 5.815 metres of climbing, is the race’s longest ever. It will have three marathon stages which will start and finish at the Palacio de los Deportes de La Rioja, neuralgic centre of de La Rioja Bike Race presented by Shimano.

The stages will cover the Moncalvillo and Cameros mountain ranges, and the Nalda hills. They outstand for their physical and technical difficulty. A true mountain biking course, with excellent landscapes and enjoyable singletrails.

Stage 1: 73,0 km, 2.010 m+

Stage 2: 89,5 km, 2.150 m+

Stage 3: 63,3 km, 1.655 m+
